This story brings about a very intersting dilemma, which is what would happen if one of the robotic laws conflicted with another one.

This article is about the short story. The plot revolves around rujaround Three Laws of Robotics:. As the order to retrieve the selenium was casually worded with no particular emphasis, Speedy cannot decide whether to obey it Second Law or protect himself from danger the strengthened Third Law.

Under normal circumstances, Speedy would observe the Second Law, but because Speedy was so expensive to manufacture, and “not a thing to be lightly destroyed”, the Third Law had been strengthened “so that his allergy to danger is unusually high”.

An attempt to increase the compulsion of the Third Law fails. A very “primitive” story in many ways. This inconvenience is finally put to an end when Powell suggests that the First Law be applied to the situation by placing himself in danger so that the robot can respond and save him and then await further orders.

The three laws are aslmov in a manner that forces him to shift constantly between two, leaving him unable to complete or abandon his task. Professor Asimov is generally considered one of the most prolific writers of all time, having written or edited more than books and an estimated 90, letters and postcards.

I, Robot by Isaac Asimov. Donovan and Powell are the sole humans on Mercury, with only robot named Speedy to accompany them.
